Ferry users should be alert to new schedule beginning January 1, 2010

SURRY — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will operate a reduced Jamestown-Scotland Ferry schedule on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2009, while permanent schedule changes will begin on Jan. 1, 2010.

At midnight on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2009, the Ferry will begin to operate on the hour from Scotland/Surry and on the half hour from Jamestown until midnight, Christmas, Dec. 25, 2009.

On Jan.1, 2010, Ferry departure times will change between 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. to accommodate increased demand:

Current schedule:

6:30 a.m.

6:50 a.m.

7:15 a.m.

7:35 a.m.

8:00 a.m.

8:30 a.m.

9:00 a.m.

New Schedule:

6:30 a.m.

6:55 a.m.

7:20 a.m.

7:45 a.m.

8:10 a.m.

8:35 a.m.

9:00 a.m.

The new schedule applies to both the winter and summer published schedules as well as from launchings on both the Surry/Scotland and Jamestown sides of the James River.
