NEWPORT NEWS— Motorists traveling on Jefferson Avenue (Route 143) between Buchanan Drive and Richneck Road should expect traffic delays tonight, May 21. Traffic is currently being shifted to the east (toward Jefferson Avenue south) so that crews may begin construction of the new northbound lanes.  One lane will be closed in each direction through evening rush hour to implement the shift. After the shift is completed, two lanes will be open in both directions.
