VDOT WILL IMPROVE BRIDGE ON ROUTE 610 (DRAGONSVILLE ROAD) IN KING AND QUEEN COUNTY
Dragonsville Rd. will be closed to through traffic for approximately five weeks starting Tuesday, Dec. 27
Later this month, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to improve the condition of a bridge over Timber Branch Swamp on Route 610 (Dragonsville Road) in King and Queen County.
On Tuesday, Dec. 27, Dragonsville Road will be closed to through traffic just west of Route 610 (Timber Branch Road) at 9 a.m. The bridge is located near Route 614 (Devils 3 Jump Road) and Route 614 (Rock Springs Road).
A detour will be in place for approximately five weeks while construction is underway.
Signs will be posted along the recommended detour route, which is approximately 20 miles:
- Route 614 (Devils 3 Jump Rd.)
- Route 14 (The Trail)
- Route 617 (Carlton’s Corner Rd.)
- Route 616 (Zion Church Rd.)
Message boards will be posted to alert drivers to the upcoming bridge work and detour.
VDOT crews will replace the existing bridge’s steel beams, deck with new timber, steel and guardrail.
The existing bridge, constructed in 1969, is structurally deficient. It has a posted weight restriction of 11 tons for single-axle vehicles and 16 tons for tractor trailers. Following this project, the bridge’s weight posting is expected to be removed.
Dragonsville Road carries an average of 140 vehicles a day, according to a 2015 VDOT traffic count.
