Motorists to be detoured approximately 12 miles around work zone

FREDERICKSBURG – Beginning Monday, Mar. 7, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to replace the Route 635 (Pilkington Road) Bridge in Essex County.

Bridge crews will replace the existing timber bridge that was built in 1965 with a new concrete slab span structure.

During construction motorists will be detoured approximately 12 miles around the work zone.

Motorists traveling on Route 635 (Pilkington Road) will be detoured to Route 636 (Bethlehem Road) to Route 625 (Passing Road) to Route 637 (Hustle Road) back to Route 635 (Pilkington Road).

The project is expected to be complete in approximately eight weeks.

Real-time listings of road closures in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic and travel information website, www.511Virginia.org.
