VDOT TO HOLD "PARDON OUR DUST" MEETING ON ROUTE 722 BRIDGE REHABILITATION
Project will improve condition of structurally deficient bridge in Caroline County

FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites the public to attend a “Pardon Our Dust” meeting on Monday, March 21, to learn more about upcoming construction to rehabilitate the Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) bridge in Caroline County.

"Pardon Our Dust” Meeting

Monday, March 21, 2016

5-7 p.m.

Caroline County Community Services Center

17202 Richmond Turnpike

Milford, VA 22514

VDOT staff will be available from 5-7 p.m. to share construction plans and answer questions.

Nelson Hill Road will be closed for an estimated 4-6 months at the bridge beginning in early April. The detour route is 4.8 miles, and an average of 1,800 vehicles a day cross the bridge.

The existing bridge was built in 1966 and is structurally deficient. It has a posted weight limit of 24 tons for single-unit trucks, and 34 tons for tractor-trailers.

VDOT will improve the bridge’s condition and remove the weight posting by replacing the bridge’s superstructure. A new concrete deck and steel beams will be installed.
