Emergency sign removal estimated to be underway through approximately 2 p.m.

FREDERICKSBURG – (12:25 p.m.) Northbound Interstate 95 remains closed in the Fredericksburg area for an emergency sign removal, and lanes are not expected to re-open until approximately 2 p.m.

Crews are removing an overhead sign at mile marker 132, just north of the Rappahannock River Bridge. The sign was struck overnight by a vehicle, damaging the sign.

All northbound traffic is being detoured off the interstate at Exit 130/Route 3 at Fredericksburg.

Severe congestion exists on northbound I-95 in the Fredericksburg area, as well as on northbound Route 1 and Route 3. Motorists should plan to avoid these areas if possible, or consider using Route 301 as an alternate route.

Detour Route

Northbound I-95 motorists should follow the posted detour route from Route 3 eastbound to Route 1 northbound to Route 17 Business, where motorists can access the northbound on-ramp to I-95 at Exit 133/Falmouth.

Commercial traffic and tractor-trailers can also detour to Route 1 northbound using Exit 126/Spotsylvania.

Ramps to northbound I-95 from Route 3 westbound and eastbound in Fredericksburg are also closed to traffic.

Traffic signal timing has been modified along the detour route to accommodate the anticipated extra traffic.
