TURN LANES OPEN AT ROUTE 1, MUDD TAVERN ROAD
Construction complete on intersection improvement in Spotsylvania County’s Thornburg area
FREDERICKSBURG – Construction is complete on a safety enhancement project that added dedicated left turn lanes at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) in Spotsylvania County’s Thornburg area.
Route 1 traffic now has a dedicated left turn lane to turn onto eastbound or westbound Route 606 at the intersection’s traffic signal.
The existing right turn lanes on Route 1 were extended to accommodate additional vehicles and meet current design standards.
The $5.9 million project also installed new traffic signal equipment at the intersection. A raised concrete median was built on Route 1 to separate northbound and southbound traffic.
J.L. Kent & Sons, Inc. of Fredericksburg was the project contractor.
Approximately 21,650 vehicles a day travel through the Route 1 and Route 606 intersection at Thornburg, based on 2015 traffic counts.
