ROUTE 617 TO CLOSE NEXT WEEK FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Posted detour signs will direct motorists around the work zone

FREDERICKSBURG – On Monday, Aug. 8, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to replace the Route 617 (Gardy’s Mill Road) bridge in Westmoreland County.

Crews will replace the existing 10 foot wide, timber deck bridge with a new 14.5 foot, timber deck structure on concrete abutments.

The bridge, constructed in 1935, is located 1.5 miles from Route 202 near the Northumberland County line.

During construction traffic will be detoured approximately 4.5 miles around the work zone.

Motorists are encouraged to use the posted detour route or the most convenient alternate route.

Approximately 200 vehicles use this portion of Route 716 (Gardy’s Mill Road) daily.
