NEW MATTOX CREEK BRIDGE OPENS IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY
Project replaced structurally deficient bridge on Route 205 near Colonial Beach

FREDERICKSBURG – Construction work was completed today on a new Mattox Creek bridge on Route 205 (James Monroe Highway) in Westmoreland County.

Temporary traffic signals were removed from the bridge this afternoon. Two travel lanes are now open to traffic on the bridge.

This estimated $9.6 million project replaced a structurally deficient bridge used by motorists traveling between Route 3 and the Town of Colonial Beach.

The new bridge has two 12 foot travel lanes and two 10 foot shoulders.

The project was finished ahead of the scheduled July 8, 2016 completion date. Construction on the bridge began in June 2014.

Abernathy Construction Corporation of Glen Allen, Va., was the project contractor.
