HAZARDOUS ROAD CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON IN FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT
Snowfall and high winds combine for whiteout conditions in some areas

FREDERICKSBURG – (3:30 p.m.) Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews in the Fredericksburg District continue to plow and apply materials to Interstate 95, primary roads and high-volume secondary roads this afternoon in the midst of heavy snowfall and high winds.

Whiteout conditions have developed at times across the Fredericksburg area, with severely limited motorist visibility. Drivers are urged to remain off the roads for the duration of the storm.

Crews are focusing on clearing snow from roads carrying the most traffic to keep them open. Plows will continue to make repeated passes this afternoon and evening to push snow off the road as it falls on I-95, main roads such as Route 1, Route 3, Route 17, Route 301, and Route 360, and secondary roads that connect to public facilities and emergency services.

VDOT has tree contractors on standby to quickly respond to reports of downed trees or debris in a state-maintained road.
