Emergency bridge deck repair is underway on Route 3 bridge over the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties

FREDERICKSBURG – (8:45 p.m.) Route 3 traffic on the Robert O. Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties has been reduced to a single lane so Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews can perform an emergency repair to large pothole on the bridge deck.

Motorists should expect delays crossing the bridge this evening and early Sunday morning. VDOT crews are on site to provide traffic control.

VDOT crews will fill the pothole overnight and cover the affected area with steel plates. The steel plates will remain in place until a permanent repair is scheduled.

This evening’s emergency repair is estimated to be completed early Sunday morning, allowing all lanes to re-open to traffic.

Information on a permanent repair schedule and any required lane closures will be announced early next week.
