Motorists can expect single daytime lane closures June 27-30

FREDERICKSBURG – A mobile work zone will close a single travel lane of Route 33 at the Lord Delaware Bridge on Monday, June 27 through Thursday, June 30.

The bridge carries Route 33 traffic across the Mattaponi River between King and Queen County and the Town of West Point.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will be performing tests on the bridge associated with an ongoing maintenance project to remove and replace grout.

A single lane of the bridge will close between 8 a.m. − 4 p.m. each day. Work will begin in the eastbound travel lanes on Monday, June 27.

A biodegradable red dye will be used as part of the test. The dye helps researchers track the flow of water through the bridge structure. The dye will dissipate in 2-5 days of sunlight.
