VDOT SET TO OPEN NEW ROUTE 1/SOUTH ROXBURY MILL ROAD INTERSECTION IN SPOTSYLVANIA
New intersection to open on Tuesday, Feb. 17, existing connection to close on

FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will open the new Route 1/South Roxbury Mill Road intersection on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The existing intersection, located just north of Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) in the Thornburg area of Spotsylvania County, will be permanently closed to traffic on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Crews are currently completing the installation of signs and placing pavement markings in preparation of the intersection opening. Message boards will be placed on Route 1 northbound and southbound and also on South Roxbury Road to alert motorists in advance of the intersection opening.

The relocation of this intersection is part of the Route 1/Route 606 Intersection Improvement Project.

The $5.9 million improvement project will build designated left turn lanes on Route 1 northbound and southbound to improve safety and overall operation of the intersection.

The Route 1/Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) intersection is located west of the Interstate 95 interchange.
