Motorists can expect 30-minute stops from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday

FREDERICKSBURG – Traffic will be stopped for 30-minute intervals overnight this Wednesday on the Route 223 (Cricket Hill Road) bridge over Milford Haven in Mathews County.

Traffic will be stopped between 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 24 and  5 a.m. Thursday, June 25.

Bridge repairs will be underway. Crews will be grinding steel between the swing span and the closure point at the bridge abutment. This will provide additional room for the steel to expand during extreme heat.

Every 30 minutes, workers will close the swing span, and all traffic will be allowed to pass.

Immediate passage will be granted to emergency service providers, as required.

This bridge links mainland Mathews County and Gwynn’s Island.

On Tuesday, June 16, extreme heat caused the bridge’s swing span to remain in an open position. Traffic was stopped for approximately one hour.
