ROUTE 648 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT SET TO BEGIN TUESDAY, OCT. 6
Caroline County bridge will be closed to traffic for approximately eight weeks

FREDERICKSBURG – Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to replace the Route 648 (Sunshine Road) Bridge in Caroline County.

The existing timber bridge was constructed in 1935.  The new structure will be concrete slabs with asphalt overlay.

During construction motorists will be detoured approximately three miles using Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike).

Motorists south of the project will take Route 648 (Sunshine Road). Make a right on Route 301 north then make a right on Route 647 (Doggetts Fork Road) back to Route 648 (Sunshine Road).  

Motorists north of the project will take Route 648 (Sunshine Road). Make a left on Route 647 (Doggetts Fork Road) then make a left on Route 301 south back to Route 648 (Sunshine Road).  

The project is expected to be complete in approximately eight weeks.
