ROUTE 205 NOW OPEN IN WESTMORELAND COUNTY
Bridge over Mattox Creek is now open to traffic

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 205 (James Monroe Highway) is now open at the Mattox Creek bridge in Westmoreland County.

Traffic had been detoured at the bridge since Monday, July 13. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is building a new Mattox Creek bridge. This week, the bridge was closed so workers could shift equipment and materials from the finished half of the new bridge to the opposite side.

Route 205 remains reduced to one travel lane on the bridge. Temporary traffic signals will continue to control traffic on each bridge approach.

Construction began in June 2014, and is scheduled to be complete in July 2016.

The replacement bridge will have two 12-foot travel lanes, with two 10-foot shoulders.
