ROUTE 17 SOUTHBOUND REPAIR CONTINUES
Southbound traffic in Essex County will continue to use detour

FREDERICKSBURG – A detour will remain in place through Tuesday evening on Route 17 southbound in Essex County, where repair work continued today on a section of highway washed away by storm waters this weekend.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and contractor crews are replacing a damaged 24-inch drainage pipe near Route 1103 (Ben Lomond Road), which is located south of Tappahannock in the Dunnsville area.

Tomorrow, crews will pave the reconstructed road. Weather permitting, southbound Route 17 is estimated to re-open to traffic on Tuesday evening.

Southbound traffic should follow detour signs posted at the scene. Southbound and northbound Route 17 traffic are both traveling in the northbound lanes of Route 17, with one lane of traffic operating in each direction.

Motorists can find real-time information about traffic, incidents and congestion on Virginia roads at 511 Virginia.

Download the free mobile VDOT 511 app for Apple and Android devices to stay connected, or visit www.511Virginia.org. Motorists also can reach 511Virginia by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia.
