DETOUR ON ROUTE 17 SOUTHBOUND
VDOT working to repair storm damage in Essex County

FREDERICKSBURG – Southbound Route 17 traffic is being detoured around a damaged section of the highway in Essex County, where storm waters overflowed a drainage pipe overnight and washed away a section of road.

Route 17 southbound is closed near Route 1103 (Ben Lomond Road), south of Tappahannock.

Southbound traffic should follow detour signs posted at the scene. Southbound and northbound Route 17 traffic are both traveling in the northbound lanes of Route 17, with one lane of traffic operating in each direction.

Repair work is underway. Additional information about an estimated re-opening time for Route 17 southbound will be announced later today.
