CONSTRUCTION STARTS SEPT. 8 ON ROUTE 638 (OAK ROW ROAD)
Road will be closed through late November for drainage improvement in Richmond County

FREDERICKSBURG – Next week, construction work begins on a drainage improvement project on Route 638 (Oak Row Road) in Richmond County.

Oak Row Road will be closed to through traffic between Route 622 (Snyder Road) and Route 639 (Mozingo Road) starting at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The road will remain closed at the work zone until November 24, 2015, when construction will be complete.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its contractor are removing an existing drainage pipe underneath Oak Row Road and replacing it with two 72-inch drainage pipes to reduce highway flooding in the area.

Approximately 350 vehicles a day travel this section of Oak Row Road.

Detour signs have been posted to guide motorists around the road closure. Motorists are encouraged to use the following detour route:

  • Route 622 (Snyder Road)
  • Route 624 (Newland Road)
  • Route 638 (Oak Row Road)

The project is estimated to cost $727,980. The project contractor is Burleigh Construction Co., Inc., of Concord, Va.
