TRAFFIC SHIFT ON ROUTE 17 SOUTHBOUND TUESDAY NIGHT
Motorists should be alert for new traffic pattern between Cardinal Forest Drive and International Parkway in Stafford County

FREDERICKSBURG – Motorists on southbound Route 17 in Stafford County may encounter minor travel delays between Cardinal Forest Drive and International Parkway overnight on Tuesday, July 15.

Weather permitting, southbound Route 17 traffic will be intermittently reduced to a single lane between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16.

Traffic cones, barrels and signs will guide drivers into the temporary travel lanes, which will be slightly right of the existing lanes.

Temporary travel lanes have been built along the right side of Route 17 southbound. Shifting traffic into these lanes provides space for VDOT and its contractor, Henderson Construction Co., to perform median work.

A $48.9 million project is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The project began in June 2013, and will be completed by December 1, 2016.

Real-time listings of travel times, work zones, and traffic incidents in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org.

Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia, or downloading VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app.
