ROUTE 662 BRIDGE TO BE CLOSED NEXT WEEK FOR REPAIRS
A detour route is posted around the Almondsville Road bridge in Gloucester County

FREDERICKSBURG—Almondsville Road (Route 662) will be closed to all traffic next week at the bridge over Fox Creek in Gloucester County so the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) can perform critical repairs to the bridge beams.

The bridge will be closed to traffic the morning of Monday, March 31, and will not re-open until the evening of Friday, April 4.

VDOT recommends motorists use Ark Road (Route 606) and Cappahosic Road (Route 618) as a detour route until the bridge re-opens. Motorists can anticipate an additional 5-10 minutes of travel time to reach their destination using the detour.

VDOT will be adding additional support to the bridge beams, which will allow the bridge to remain open to traffic. VDOT has preliminary engineering work underway to replace the bridge.

The steel beam bridge has a timber deck and a timber foundation. It was built in 1937, and it is inspected annually.

An average of 270 vehicles a day cross the bridge over Fox Creek on Almondsville Road, according to a VDOT traffic count.

Real-time listings of travel times, work zones, and traffic incidents in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
