ROUTE 620 (SPOTSWOOD FURNACE ROAD) NOW OPEN IN SPOTSYLVANIA
VDOT employees finish building new bridges at Laroque Run and Pipe Dam Run

FREDERICKSBURG – Construction work is complete on two new bridges on Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road) in Spotsylvania County.

Spotswood Furnace Road re-opened to traffic this afternoon between U.S. Ford Road and River Road.

A Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) bridge crew installed new bridges over Laroque Run and Pipe Dam Run. A section of unpaved road between the two bridges has been closed to traffic since May 2014.

An annual inspection of the bridges in 2012 revealed structural deterioration. At that time, VDOT briefly closed the road to traffic while it installed temporary bridges to keep the road open to traffic. In May 2014, VDOT removed the temporary structures and built permanent replacements.
