ROUTE 604 NOW OPEN AT DRAGON RUN BRIDGE
VDOT completed repairs to bridge at Essex, King and Queen county lines

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 604 has re-opened to traffic over Dragon Run, which is located at the Essex and King and Queen county lines.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews finished repairs Friday. VDOT replaced the bridge’s steel beams, timber deck, and railings as part of the project.

VDOT closed the bridge in October 2013 after an annual inspection found rapid deterioration of the bridge’s steel beams.

The Route 604 bridge over Dragon Run was built in 1965. It is a timber deck bridge with steel beams and a timber foundation. It carries two travel lanes.

The bridge carries an average of 300 vehicles a day, according to VDOT traffic data.

Additional information about VDOT’s bridge inspection program and individual bridge conditions are posted online at www.virginiaDOT.org.
