RAIN DELAYED PAVING WORK TO TAKE PLACE THIS WEEKEND ON ROUTE 639 (LADYSMITH ROAD) IN CAROLINE
Expect single-lane closures west of Interstate 95 Saturday-Sunday for safety improvements

FREDERICKSBURG – The safety improvement project scheduled to take place last weekend has been rescheduled for this weekend.  Motorists on Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) in Caroline County may experience brief delays Oct. 25-26.

Single lane closures are planned from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 and on Sunday, Oct.26 for paving work. A flagging crew will direct motorists in the work zone.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is paving sections of Ladysmith Road west of I-95 with a high-friction surface treatment. This treatment increases friction between vehicle tires and the road surface, which reduces vehicle skid. The surface treatment is being applied on curves in the road, and other locations with an elevated crash history.

Weekend work was scheduled in an effort to avoid conflict with the ongoing turn lane and widening project on Ladysmith Road between Route 1 and Interstate 95.

Real-time listings of travel times, work zones, and traffic incidents in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
