PAVING WORK SCHEDULED ON ROUTE 639 (LADYSMITH ROAD) IN CAROLINE
Single-lane closures west of Interstate 95 Thursday-Sunday for safety improvements

FREDERICKSBURG – Motorists on Route 639 (Ladysmith Road) in Caroline County may experience brief delays Oct. 16-19 due to a safety improvement project.

Single lane closures are planned from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 19 for paving work. A flagging crew will direct motorists in the work zone.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is paving sections of Ladysmith Road west of I-95 with a high-friction surface treatment. This treatment increases friction between vehicle tires and the road surface, which reduces vehicle skid. The surface treatment is being applied on curves in the road, and other locations with an elevated crash history.

Paving work was scheduled for this weekend to avoid a conflict with construction work on Ladysmith Route between Route 1 and Interstate 95, where VDOT has a turn lane and widening project underway.

Real-time listings of travel times, work zones, and traffic incidents in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
