NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN ON WEST CAMBRIDGE STREET
Only Route 1 southbound traffic will be allowed to turn right onto

FREDERICKSBURG – Starting on Friday, May 2, a new traffic pattern will go into effect on West Cambridge Street in Stafford County that prohibits right and left turns onto Route 1, weather permitting.

The change in traffic pattern is part of the Falmouth Intersection Improvement Project at Route 1, Route 17 Business, and Route 218 (Butler Road). The traffic pattern will remain in place after construction is completed in September 2015.

Route 1 southbound traffic will continue to be permitted to turn right onto West Cambridge Street. Northbound Route 1 traffic will not be permitted to turn left onto West Cambridge Street.

Also, traffic on West Cambridge Street will no longer be allowed to turn right onto southbound Route 1 to cross the Falmouth Bridge, or to turn left onto northbound Route 1.

“As part of the construction project, we are installing a median on Route 1 to separate northbound and southbound traffic as it approaches the traffic signal,” said Greg Henion, VDOT’s Assistant District Administrator for Construction. “The median will reduce the risk of crashes between northbound and southbound traffic.”

Message boards will be posted along Route 1 and West Cambridge Street starting this Friday to alert drivers to the upcoming change.
