BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION TO CLOSE ROUTE 620 (SPOTSWOOD FURNACE ROAD) IN SPOTSYLVANIA
Road closed from River Road to U.S. Ford Road from May 12-July 1

FREDERICKSBURG – Starting Monday, May 12, new bridge construction will begin on Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road) in Spotsylvania County at Laroque Run and Pipe Dam Run, and a section of unpaved road between the two bridges will be closed to traffic through July 1, 2014.

Spotswood Furnace Road will be closed from River Road to U.S. Ford Road. Detour signs have been posted to guide motorists around the road closure.

A Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) bridge crew is installing new bridges over both water crossings.

An annual inspection of the bridges in 2012 revealed structural deterioration. At that time, VDOT briefly closed the road to traffic while it installed temporary bridges to keep the road open to traffic. Next week, VDOT will remove the temporary structures so it can build permanent replacements.

Approximately 450 vehicles cross both bridges daily.

Real-time listings of travel times, work zones, and traffic incidents in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia, or downloading VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app.
