VDOT CLEARING STORM DEBRIS IN FREDERICKSBURG AREA
Motorists should treat traffic signals without power as a 4-way stop

FREDERICKSBURG —Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are patrolling area roads Thursday evening to clear debris and downed tree limbs following severe thunderstorms in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.

Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously and remain alert for hazards in the roadway. Interstate 95 and most primary roads in the Fredericksburg region are clear, but numerous secondary roads are blocked by debris in Spotsylvania County and locations along the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.

A list of specific road closures statewide is available at www.511Virginia.org, or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. 511Virginia is also accessible as a free, mobile app for iPhone and Android platform devices.

The list of road closures on 511Virginia will be updated in real-time to reflect openings as debris is cleared away.

Multiple traffic signals in the Fredericksburg area lack power, and are not operational. If motorists encounter a traffic signal without power, they should come to a complete stop, and then treat the intersection as a 4-way stop.

When power is restored to a traffic signal, the signal will operate in flash mode for approximately 10 minutes. The signal will then automatically reset, and will be fully operational again. VDOT traffic signal technicians are monitoring the affected signals, and are ready to make adjustments as needed once power is restored.

VDOT’s Customer Service Center is open 24 hours a day to take reports of debris, downed trees, or other roadway hazards at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623).
