ROUTE 617 DETOUR WILL BEGIN MONDAY, MAY 13
Wet weather delayed detour several weeks

FREDERICKSBURG – Beginning Monday, May 13, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will detour through traffic on Route 617 in Mathews County for approximately three weeks.

Through traffic on Route 617 from just north of Route 618 to just south of Route 654 will use the following 4.3 detour:

• From Route 14 take  Route 660 to Route 618 back to Route 617

During the detour access to homes located in the work zone will be maintained.

The detour will allow the contractor to replace and upgrade multiple pipe crossings on Route 617.

The detour was scheduled to begin in late April; however, several weeks of wet weather caused a delay in the progress of other project activities that were necessary to complete prior to the start of the detour.

The Route 617 Improvement Project is expected to complete in mid-November.

Real time listings of work zones, delays and road conditions in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic and travel information website www.511virginia.org.  Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
