Pipe replacement work requires three week detour for through traffic

FREDERICKSBURG –   Work in connection with the Route 617 Drainage and Trench Widening Project in Mathews County will detour through traffic on Route 617 beginning Monday, April 22 through mid-May, weather permitting.

During the three week detour, the contractor will be replacing and upgrading multiple pipe crossings on Route 617.  The contractor will also be performing other work in connection with the project while traffic is being detoured around the work zone.

Through traffic on Route 617 from just north of Route 618 to just south of Route 654 will use the following 4.3 detour:

• From Route 14 take  Route 660 to Route 618 back to Route 617

During the detour access to homes located in the work zone will be maintained.

Once the pipe work is complete, the detour will be lifted and motorists should expect delays in the work zone Monday – Friday, daylight to dusk.  Flaggers will be used to direct motorists through the work zone for the remainder of the project.

The $795,000 project is expected to complete in mid-November.
