TEMPORARY ENTRANCE TO OPEN AT ROUTE 709 IN SPOTSYLVANIA
Motorists will use a short detour to access Alsop Town Road as construction continues on the Spotsylvania Courthouse Bypass, Phase II

FREDERICKSBURG – A temporary entrance to Route 709 (Alsop Town Road) from Route 208 will open this week to provide access to motorists while construction continues on the Spotsylvania Courthouse Bypass, Phase II.

The temporary entrance to Alsop Town Road is located approximately 500 feet south of the existing intersection of Alsop Town Road and Route 208. Signs will be posted to guide motorists to Alsop Town Road.

From the temporary entrance, motorists will travel on a detour ramp that connects the entrance with Alsop Town Road.

A temporary entrance and detour ramp was built to allow access while the existing entrance to Alsop Town Road is reconstructed, and new travel lanes for the Spotsylvania Courthouse Bypass, Phase II are finished.

The new entrance to Alsop Town Road, when complete, will be in approximately the same location as the current entrance, but will offer improved sight distance of oncoming traffic along Route 208 at the connection point.

The temporary entrance and detour ramp is expected to be in use for approximately 4 weeks, when the new entrance will open.

Approximately 240 vehicles a day travel on Alsop Town Road, according to a 2010 Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) traffic count.
