ROUTE 644 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT SLATED TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK IN CAROLINE COUNTY
Motorists will be detoured around the work zone

FREDERICKSBURG— Beginning Friday, October  5, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to replace the Route 644 (Bagby Road) Bridge over Maracossic Creek in Caroline County.

Bryant Contracting, Inc. was awarded a $488.000.00 contract to replace the old timber bridge with a new concrete structure.  The new bridge which will feature two 9-foot travel lanes with 7- foot shoulders on each side.  

The new bridge is designed to accommodate the projected traffic count of 120 vehicles per day by 2035.  The current traffic count is 108 vehicles per day.   

The total cost of the bridge replacement project is approximately $1 million.

During construction motorists will be detoured approximately six miles around the work zone.  

VDOT has designated the following detour route:

 Use Route 643 (File Road) to Route 654 (Pendleton Road) to Route 721 (Sparta Road) back to Route 678/643.  

The project is expected to be completed by summer 2013.
