DETOUR ENDS ON SPOTSWOOD FURNACE ROAD
Temporary bridges are now open on secondary road in Spotsylvania County

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 620 (Spotswood Furnace Road) in Spotsylvania County has opened to through traffic again at two bridge crossings.

Temporary bridges have been installed at Laroque Run and Pipe Dam Run while repairs are planned for the permanent structures.

Bridges at Laroque Run and Pipe Dam Run have been closed to traffic since Oct. 3, 2012.  Routine, annual inspections of the bridges found severe deterioration, necessitating their closure.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is developing plans to replace both timber deck bridges. Both bridges were built in 1932.

Real-time listings of road conditions in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511Virginia.org.  Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
