DELAYS POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK ON ROUTE 301 IN KING GEORGE
Security exercise scheduled for March 19-23 at the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren may cause intermittent travel delays

FREDERICKSBURG – Travelers on Route 301 in King George County may encounter travel delays next week due to a security exercise planned at the Naval Support Facility Dahlgren.

The exercise is scheduled to take place during daytime hours each day from Monday, March 19 to Friday, March 23.

While intermittent delays are possible each day of the exercise, travel delays are most likely on Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is working in partnership with military officials to monitor traffic throughout the event, and to notify motorists of delays in advance.

VDOT has activated a temporary traffic camera near the intersection of Route 301 and Route 206, which leads to the main base gate. Motorists can check the camera online at www.511Virginia.org to monitor congestion.

Message boards were posted this week along Route 301 to warn travelers of future travel delays next week. The message boards will remain in place throughout the exercise.

Next week, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible, and to allow extra travel time. Motorists should also be prepared to encounter stopped traffic on Route 301 in the Dahlgren area of King George during the exercise.

Real-time information about traffic incidents and congestion is available on VDOT’s 24-hour travel information website, www.511Virginia.org. 511Virginia is also available by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
