VDOT SUSPENDS NORTHERN NECK FERRY SERVICE
(Merry Point closed today; Sunnybank to close at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 26)

FREDERICKSBURG – In preparation of the arrival of Hurricane Irene, expected to impact the Northern Neck area this weekend, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has suspended service on both the Merry Point and Sunnybank Ferries.  

Service was suspended on the Merry Point Ferry located in Lancaster County today.  The Sunnybank Ferry service will be suspended at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 26; it is located in Northumberland County.

The vessels will remain out of service until after the storm passes; clean up efforts are completed and conditions are deemed safe.
