ROAD WORK SCHEDULED ON DOWNING BRIDGE
Single lane closures planned on Route 360 during October for bridge projects

FREDERICKSBURG—Motorists that cross the Downing Bridge on Route 360 between Essex and Richmond counties should allow extra travel time during limited evening and daytime hours during the month of October.

Single lane closures for several bridge maintenance projects may cause daytime and overnight travel delays beginning Monday, Oct. 3.

When work is underway, northbound and southbound traffic will take turns traveling in a single open lane on the bridge. Work crews will provide traffic control during the projects.

A single travel lane will be closed on the bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3 to Friday, Oct. 7. Workers will install a new backwall on the bridge.

Beginning on Sunday, Oct. 9, a single travel lane will be closed on the bridge overnight from 6:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday evenings. Routine maintenance will be performed on bridge joints. This overnight work will continue for several weeks in October.

Motorists can find real-time information about traffic incidents and congestion on VDOT’s 24-hour travel information website, www.511Virginia.org. 511Virginia is also available by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
