Sustained winds on bridge surpassing 45 mph, with wind gusts of up to 60 mph

FREDERICKSBURG – Due to sustained winds at 45 mph or greater, the Norris Bridge on Route 3 in Lancaster and Middlesex counties has closed to vehicular traffic.

Electronic message boards at the Norris Bridge are warning motorists that the bridge is closed due to high wind. Motorists are advised to follow the direction on the signs, as the bridges are closed for the protection and safety of travelers.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid driving during tropical storm or hurricane weather conditions. Heavy rain, wind gusts and flooding could make travel hazardous throughout the Fredericksburg District.

There is no immediate estimate on when the Norris Bridge will re-open, which will depend on weather conditions.

Bridge closings and re-openings will be communicated through local media outlets and, VDOT’s 24-hour travel information website, or by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.
