NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN MONDAY ON ROUTE 17 BUSINESS
Median crossover to be closed on Monday in Gloucester County at Fox Mill Run

FREDERICKSBURG – Motorists will encounter a new traffic pattern beginning Monday, Dec. 5 on Route 17 Business (Main Street) in Gloucester County in the vicinity of a bridge replacement project underway at Fox Mill Run.

A median crossover on Route 17 Business, immediately north of Fox Mill Run, will be closed to traffic on Monday. This crossover will be closed to traffic until the completion of the bridge replacement project, which is scheduled to conclude in fall 2012.

Also Monday, a single travel lane will be closed on northbound and southbound Route 17 Business in the work zone at Fox Mill Run.

Closure of the median crossover will affect the southernmost entrance to the Main Street Center in Gloucester.

The southernmost entrance to Main Street Center will remain open throughout the project to right turns entering the center, and right turns exiting the center. Left turns will not be permitted at this entrance while the median crossover on Route 17 Business is closed. The other two entrances to Main Street Center will not be affected by the project.

Motorists are encouraged to proceed with caution in the work zone, and stay alert for new pavement markings, signs and construction equipment.

VDOT is replacing a bridge on southbound Route 17 Business at Fox Mill Run. When complete next fall, the new bridge will meet modern design standards set by state and federal agencies, and will have no weight restrictions. The bridge will have wider travel lanes and shoulders to accommodate the projected growth in travel volumes.

Motorists can find real-time information about work zones, traffic incidents and congestion on VDOT’s 24-hour travel information website, www.511Virginia.org. 511Virginia is also available by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia.
