SNOW, SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN CREATES HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS
(Road Condition Update – 5:30 a.m.)
FREDERICKSBURG (5:30 a.m.) – Snow, sleet and freezing rain continues to fall throughout the Fredericksburg district. Driving conditions are hazardous; motorists heading out this morning are urged to use extreme caution especially on bridges, overpasses, ramps; these areas are prone to icy and slippery conditions. Snow is forecasted to fall until late afternoon becoming heavy at times and accompanied by high gusty winds.
Motorists are urged to check road conditions before heading out by calling 511 or visiting www.511virginia.org.
The following road conditions are being reported throughout the district:
• Interstate 95 conditions are reported as minor meaning their may be slick and slushy areas.
• Primary and major secondary routes throughout the district are in minor to moderate condition meaning that snow or ice is covering the roadway but they are passable.
• Low volume secondary routes and subdivision streets are in moderate to severe condition; however they are passable with caution.
Motorists should be alert to changing road conditions throughout the morning hours.
The following counties are included in the Fredericksburg District: Fredericksburg Area (Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George); Caroline County Area (Caroline, Essex, King William);Northern Neck (Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, Lancaster); and Middle Peninsula (King and Queen, Mathews, Gloucester, Middlesex)
