ROAD CONDITION UPDATE – 12 noon
Travel is not advised
FREDERICSKSBURG (noon) – Moderate to severe conditions are being reported in the Fredericksburg and Caroline County areas and in the northern portion of the Northern Neck. This includes I-95 and all primary and major secondary routes. Low volume secondary routes and subdivision streets are reported in severe condition.
On the interstate, crews are operating in a plow train formation; which consists of a group of three plows, staggered in each lane, pushing the snow across all three lanes of the interstate. This method has proven effective to quickly remove snow from the travel lanes. Crews are also applying abrasives, a mixture of salt and sand, which will create slush to make plowing easier. On the primary and major secondary routes, crews are plowing and applying sand for traction. At this time crews are not plowing on low volume secondary routes or subdivision streets.
Roads remain extremely hazardous and snow is expected to continue to fall until the early evening hours. High winds will cause snow to drift, create poor visibility or white out conditions and may cause trees and power lines to fall.
Motorists are advised to stay off the roads today.
