Good News: The New Garnett’s Creek Bridge is slated to open to traffic
Nine month detour lifted in time for school start

FREDERICKSBURG— Good news for motorists traveling on Route 633 (Mantua Road) in King and Queen County -- the new bridge over Garnett’s Creek will open to traffic on Friday, September 3.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed the decaying timber deck bridge over Garnett’s Creek in November 2009 when Abernathy Construction Corp. began construction of the new $917,000 structure.

The bridge, located on Route 633 between Route 620 and Route 623, is 74 feet long and 28 feet wide with guardrail on each side and provides a wider and safer structure for motorists to cross.

The entire bridge replacement project is scheduled to be complete in November 2010.
