Gwynn’s Island Bridge slated for repairs
(Work to impact Marine traffic)
Fredericksburg – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to repair the Gwynn’s Island Bridge on Monday, December 1.
McClain and Company, Inc. of Culpeper was awarded the $188,000 contract for this bridge maintenance project. The work will repair cracks in the steel truss located under the bridge. The cracks were detected during a regular safety inspection of the Route 223 Bridge over Milford Haven in Mathews County.
During the twenty day project, the bridge will not open for marine traffic, and vehicular traffic will be periodically restricted to one lane. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.
The project is scheduled to be complete on Saturday, December 20.
