RT. 658 BRIDGE TO CLOSE FOR REHABILITATION MAY 22
Road will be closed for three months; motorists advised to use alternate routes

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the Route 658 (Old Apple Grove Road) bridge over Turners Creek in Louisa County for rehabilitation.

The bridge, located 0.7 mile from Route 648 (Jackson Road), will be closed beginning May 22. Weather permitting, the road is expected to reopen to traffic Aug. 18. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the closure.

The existing bridge was built in 1955 and has a posted weight restriction of 12 tons. Once construction is complete, the timber-deck bridge will be rated for all legal loads.

The bridge carries approximately 60 vehicles daily, according to a 2016 traffic count.

Message boards are in place to notify the public of the closure.
