TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGING AT RT. 637 BRIDGE PROJECT
Temporary bridge expected to go into service at Big Indian Run next week
CULPEPER — Motorists on Route 637 (Jericho Road) in Rappahannock County will soon begin using a temporary structure to cross Big Indian Run, where a Virginia Department of Transportation bridge replacement project is under way.
Weather permitting, VDOT contractor Fielder’s Choice Enterprises Inc. of Charlottesville will pave the roadway approaches to the temporary bridge and install concrete barriers and other safety devices next week. Traffic will then be switched over to use the temporary bridge, which is expected to remain in service until completion of the project in early May.
VDOT’s $1.65 million construction project will replace the existing Route 637 bridge, built in 1931, with a two-lane, pre-stressed concrete slab bridge with asphalt overlay. The bridge is located 0.7 mile east of Route 522 in Flint Hill.
