SPEED LIMIT REDUCED THROUGH RT. 3 WORK ZONE
VDOT asks motorists to be alert for construction vehicles entering, exiting highway

CULPEPER — Beginning Monday, Aug. 10, the Virginia Department of Transportation will reduce the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph through a portion of the Route 3 widening project in Culpeper County.

The temporary speed limit will be posted from Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road) to the eastern project limits in Lignum for approximately nine months. During this time, VDOT contractor Branch Highways Inc. will complete earthwork, excavation and hauling as part of the project to widen a 5.1-mile segment of Route 3 to a four-lane divided highway.

VDOT asks motorists to use caution in the work zone and to watch for slow-moving construction vehicles entering and exiting the highway.

The $23.6 million Route 3 project will widen the last remaining portion of two-lane highway between Culpeper and Fredericksburg. The project’s completion date is May 4, 2017.
