45 MPH SPEED LIMIT EXTENDED ON RT. 3 PROJECT
VDOT asks motorists to proceed cautiously, watch for workers, slow-moving equipment

CULPEPER — On Wednesday, Sept. 30, the Virginia Department of Transportation will implement a temporary 45 mph speed limit through the full 5.1-mile Route 3 widening project from Stevensburg to Lignum in Culpeper County.

The speed limit reduction is a safety measure to protect workers performing construction and utility relocation near the travel lanes. VDOT asks motorists to be vigilant in the work zone, particularly around slow-moving construction vehicles entering and exiting the highway.

In April, VDOT contractor Branch Highways Inc. began construction on the $23.6 million project, which will widen the last remaining portion of two-lane highway between Culpeper and Fredericksburg. The project’s completion date is May 4, 2017.
