UPDATED: RT. 20 CLOSED SOUTH OF CHARLOTTESVILLE
Detour route posted; road may remain closed through the weekend

CULPEPER — Route 20 (Scottsville Road) remains closed south of Charlottesville due to a pipe failure and resulting flood damage. The Virginia Department of Transportation must wait for floodwaters to recede in order to start repair work and anticipates the closure will extend into the weekend.

The failed pipe is located between Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) and Route 1150 (Mill Creek Drive).

A detour has been posted that carries motorists into and out of the City of Charlottesville using Route 29 southbound to Route 708 (Red Hill Road) and back to Route 20.

Message boards will be posted on Interstate 64 and in the city to notify motorists of the closure.

Real-time road conditions and weather forecasts are available on VDOT’s traffic and travel website, www.511Virginia.org. The site also has live traffic camera images for many major highways, including Interstate 64, I-66 and Routes 29 and 250 in Central Virginia. Motorists can call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for road and traffic conditions on all major highways in the state. Call 1-800-367-7623 24 hours a day to report highway-related problems or request information about Virginia’s highways.
