TRAFFIC SWITCH TO OCCUR AT RT. 229 ROUNDABOUT ON FRIDAY
Motorists should use caution, be alert for changes to traffic pattern

CULPEPER — Motorists will soon be able to take a spin on the roundabout under construction at Route 15/29 Business and Route 229 in the town of Culpeper. One lane of the roundabout will open to traffic on Friday, Sept. 5.

Beginning after the peak traffic period Friday morning, VDOT contractor General Excavation Inc. of Warrenton will remove the temporary traffic signal currently controlling the intersection and shift traffic into the outside lane of the roundabout. Motorists should proceed with caution through the intersection, staying alert for new signs and traffic controls.

Current traffic restrictions on Route 15/29 Business and Route 229 will remain in place, with lane closures between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

When completed the $3.3-million roundabout will carry two lanes of traffic and connect Route 229, Route 15/29 Business and the new Inner Loop road. Construction is scheduled to finish in August 2015.

More information about the project and resources on driving in a roundabout can be found on VDOT’s website at www.virginiadot.org/projects/culpeper/rt_229_intersection.asp.
