RT. 659 IN RAPPAHANNOCK CLOSES OCT. 6 FOR BRIDGE WORK
Closure will extend up to 16 days; motorists will be detoured

CULPEPER — Beginning Oct. 6, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close Route 659 (Resettlement Road) in Rappahannock County for a bridge project.

During the closure, which is planned through Oct. 22, a VDOT bridge crew will replace the superstructure of the Route 659 bridge spanning the Jordan River, located near Flint Hill. The existing timber-deck bridge is posted with a 19-ton weight limit and is considered structurally deficient. In its place VDOT will install a concrete bridge capable of carrying all legal loads.

A detour will be in place to direct motorists from Route 659 to Route 606 (Fodderstack Road) to Route 628 (Dearing Road) and back to Route 659.

According to a 2013 traffic count, 280 vehicles use Route 659 daily.
