RT. 647 BRIDGE IN STANARDSVILLE TO CLOSE JULY 28, AUG. 4
During closures, shuttle service will be provided to residents of this dead-end road
CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation continues its work on the Route 647 (McMullen Mill Road) bridge in Greene County, with two closures planned in the coming weeks:
- 9 p.m. Monday, July 28 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 29 for concrete sawing.
- 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 for removal and replacement of the bridge’s superstructure with a new concrete span.
Since there will be no vehicular access past the bridge during the closures, VDOT will provide a shuttle service for residents. VDOT is also coordinating with first responders to ensure no disruptions to emergency services while the road is closed.
Additional short-term closures will be necessary for paving and for removing the footbridge, but no dates have been set at this time.
The Route 647 bridge is located 0.1 mile west of Route 637 (South River Road) in Stanardsville and spans the South River. According to a 2008 traffic count, 220 vehicles use Route 647 daily.
